Credit due to Commissioner Ponce

Dear editor,

Geoff Plant’s article in Friday’s paper on the County Commission’s resolution supporting Wild and Scenic designation for stretches of the Gila River did a very good job of covering the wide range of opinions in our community about the best way to preserve the Gila for future generations. It omitted one fact, however, that your readers should know.

That is the fact that the resolution we passed was sponsored by the commission’s Chairman, Chris Ponce. Kudos to him for recognizing the importance of outdoor recreation to our county’s economic future, as well as the importance to all of us of preserving access to our traditional uses of the river.
