Governor, protect our Gila River
Dear editor,
As the Outdoor Economic Conference gets underway, I want to thank Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham for her leadership around promoting the outdoor economy. People visit and retire here because of the quality of life that living so close to the Gila Wilderness and Gila River brings. When tourists and retirees come to Silver City, they support our restaurants, hotels and shops. As a small-business owner, it’s why I’m supporting longterm protection of the Gila through Wild and Scenic River designation, and why I’m concerned that the proposed Gila River diversion project threatens what we have in our backyard. I hope the governor can do something to end this waste of time and money, and protect the Gila instead.
